Distinguished Scholar Wynne Godley is a senior visiting research scholar at the Cambridge Endowment for Research in Finance, which is part of the Judge Institute of Management, University of Cambridge. He leads the Levy Institute's State of the U.S. and World Economies program and its Strategic Analysis series.
Much of Godley's research is based on an analysis of accounting macroeconomic models in order to reveal structural imbalances. He is surveying the economic situation and strategic prospects for the United States, the United Kingdom, and the world economies and developing an alternative macroeconomic theory of how monetary economies work. His applied work makes use of stock/flow models of the U.S. and U.K. economies and the world model devised by Francis Cripps in 1981, viewed with a medium-term time horizon. Godley has published extensively in books, journals, and the press. He is currently producing a book (with Marc Lavoie) that is an elaboration of his 1983 textbook Macroeconomics (with Francis Cripps). This work aims to revive the tradition of macroeconomics practiced by the original Cambridge Keynesians, in combination with the theory of asset allocation pioneered by James Tobin.
Godley was a member of HM Treasury's Panel of Independent Forecasters, the so-called “Six Wise Men.” He is professor emeritus of applied economics at Cambridge University and a fellow of King's College.
